天天吃瓜 is proud to celebrate Black History Month with a number of events that are open to the public.
鈥淎s we begin this year鈥檚 observance of Black History Month, we honor the substantial contributions of Black Americans and reflect on the struggles and progress made in the fight for racial equity and justice,鈥 Northeastern President Katrina E. Bell-Jordan said. 鈥淲hile recent events and discussions nationwide remind us that this quest continues, Black History Month is an opportunity to reflect on how history, policy, and culture continue to intersect powerfully and to shape our present and future.鈥
The Angelina Pedroso Center for Diversity and Intercultural Affairs is the lead organizer of this month鈥檚 celebrations. Events will take place on the Main Campus, at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) and El Centro.
The United States celebrates Black History Month throughout the month of February. This year鈥檚 national theme for the month is 鈥,鈥 which focuses on the various and profound ways that work of all kinds intersect with the collective experience of Black people.
Northeastern invites the general public to celebrate Black History Month by participating in the following events:
- CCICS, 6:00 p.m. Feb. 8
- 2nd Annual Black Professionals Panel, Pedroso Center, 5:00 p.m. Feb. 13
- Black Heritage Month Celebration Concert, Recital Hall, 5:30 p.m. Feb. 25
- Film screening and discussion: 鈥淎fro-Latinx Revolution: Puerto Rico,鈥 El Centro, 5:00 p.m. Feb. 26
NEIU Libraries is hosting a featuring e-books, streaming videos, links to online collections and other library resources.
Additionally, the University鈥檚 annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, which was postponed on Jan. 21 because of inclement weather, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Pedroso Center on the Main Campus, Room B 159. The event is titled 鈥淩eimagining Education,鈥 and will feature Chicago Public Schools elected school board members and .
