Afro-Latinx Documentary Film (Open to the public)
Wednesday, Feb. 26, Room 201, 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Join El Centro in celebrating Black History Month with a screening of the documentary film "," followed by a group discussion. The documentary focuses on Latin America and the Caribbean, receiving 95 percent of Africans who were forcibly taken during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The film discusses questions such as, "What does it mean to be a descendant of those Africans today, particularly in a context where more voices are addressing racism in Latin America?" "Why do some Black Latinos identify as 'Afro-LatinX,' while others prefer different terminology?" "Do Afro-Puerto Ricans encounter challenges similar to those faced by Black Americans regarding policing, discrimination, and economic inequality?"
