Remembering Dr. King
Northeastern began celebrating the life and accomplishments of Civil Rights Movement leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 15 with a presentation by Communication, Media and Theatre Assistant Professor Wilfredo Alvarez. The continue with a day of service on Jan. 19 and a speech by TV personality Tour茅 on Jan. 20. (Remember, all Northeastern locations will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.)
To Switzerland and back
As the national conversation continues over the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, 10 students at Northeastern have a special perspective on the hot-button issue of police brutality. In November, they traveled to , Switzerland, to attend the United Nations Committee Against Torture鈥檚 periodic review of the United States. The session concentrated on several issues, including police behavior.
Sneak preview of Northeastern
Director Gerald Mitchell and his team will host 60 students from Corliss and Voise high schools on Jan. 20. The students will tour the University, listen to a panel of Northeastern students discuss college life, watch an admissions presentation and participate in a discussion of Martin Luther King Jr.鈥檚 legacy.

Middle East lecture series
Northeastern will host a series of regarding current issues in the Middle East starting Jan. 28. The topics of these lectures will emphasize current affairs in Turkey, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Middle Eastern women, and the historical origins of Islamic extremism.
