What a week for 天天吃瓜! Anthropology Assistant Professor Siobh谩n Cooke was awarded a grant for her research in Colombia, Ensemble Espa帽ol had two programs selected by After School Matters, and Music Instructor Kathy Cowan announced plans to tour Ireland!

National Geographic Society grant

The National Geographic Society Waitt Grants Program has awarded Anthropology Assistant Professor Siobh谩n Cooke (pictured above) and two collaborators a in support of the proposed project, 鈥淧rimate Paleontology in the Magdelena Valley, Colombia.鈥 The project will build on two seasons of pilot research at a site in La Venta, Colombia, that showed differences in the types and quantities of animals in rock strata. These differences may be correlated with environmental shifts over time.

Singing in Ireland

Music Instructor will travel to Ireland from Aug. 2-11 to perform four concerts of 鈥淚n the Deep Heart鈥檚 Core.鈥 If you can鈥檛 make it to Ireland to see her sing, never fear: Cowan will perform some of the material in the Recital Hall on Oct. 1 with Northeastern Concert Coordinator Steve Zivin. But if you do go, check out her shows:

Ensemble Espa帽ol and After School Matters

After School Matters has selected two Ensemble Espa帽ol Spanish Dance Theater programs for the 2015-16 school year. Ensemble Espa帽ol, which is in its 40th year in residence at Northeastern, at Theodore Roosevelt High School and Steinmetz College Prep in Chicago.

Chicago Chamber Music Festival

Northeastern will host the (CCMF) from Aug. 1-8. CCMF is a one-week summer immersion program for talented young musicians ages 12-18. Co-directed by Susan Tang and Jaime Gorgojo, the festival includes five events that are free and open to the public.

On the stage

a play written by retired Communication, Media and Theatre Instructor Jim Blair, is running at Chicago鈥檚 Raven Theatre through Aug. 2. The play, about an unforgettable day in an inner-city high school teacher鈥檚 lounge, stars Northeastern employees Liesl Downey, Dwan Buetow, Jeff Wade and Dan Wirth.
