NEIU Golden Gala & Alumni Awards Ceremony

天天吃瓜 and the NEIU Alumni Association are pleased to once again host the in person! This year鈥檚 event will take place at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Mingle with NEIU grads, employees and students and make a difference in the lives of the next generation of NEIU alumni! Can鈥檛 attend the event? Consider making a in the amount of the year you graduated from Northeastern! Contributions fund scholarships and educational opportunities for NEIU students.

What鈥檚 in a college degree? At Northeastern, earning a degree combines hard work and dedication with a supportive community cheering you on toward success! If you or someone you know is interested in earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree, plan to visit the Main Campus from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10 for our . Meet representatives of NEIU's academic programs, academic support services, student affairs offices, enrollment/financial aid, housing, and more. Campus tours will also be offered. Advance is encouraged. 

FAFSA/RISE Act Application Completion Workshops

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Illinois Alternative Application (also known as the RISE Act Application) are now open. The Office of Financial Aid is offering workshops to complete these applications throughout October. The next will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 on the Main Campus in the Village Square. Review the list of documents for or the and bring your questions! Remember, the sooner students apply for funding, the greater the chances are they will receive the maximum amount they鈥檙e eligible for.

  • Vice President Emeritus of Student Affairs Melvin C. Terrell鈥檚 foundation, , is sponsoring a with Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum from noon-1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10. Tatum, who was president of Spelman College from 2002-2015, is interim president for Mount Holyoke College, author of 鈥淲hy Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria? and Other Conversations about Race,鈥 and a clinical psychologist.   • Professor Emeritus of Economics Ed Stuart is scheduled to present on 鈥淥il, Inflation & Politics鈥 at the at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 as part of their Economic Update Series. The session is virtual and free to attend. Advance is required.

Breast Cancer Bra Drive

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies will be hosting a . The bras will be donated to a homeless shelter and a breast cancer center for patients who have had reconstructive breast surgery. There will be a collection bin for new and gently used bras in the CCICS lobby through Oct. 31. Questions can be directed to Alex Gonzalez at a-gonzalez55@neiu.edu or (773) 268-7500.

COVID-19 updates

In accordance with guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Northeastern has adopted new strategies for mitigating COVID-19. Contact tracing will be conducted as needed. However, weekly reports of positive cases and vaccination rates will no longer be reported. If you test positive for COVID-19, students should immediately notify Student Health Services, and employees should notify their supervisors and the Office of Human Resources. Additionally, faculty and staff are required to report positive and presumptive student COVID-19 cases and exposures to Student Health Services. We continue to follow Chicago Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines as we ensure proper protocols and preventative measures are in place for the health and safety of our students and employees.
