49th Annual Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event
The NEIU Foundation is hosting the 49th annual at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling, Ill. on Monday, Aug. 2, 2021. Tee times for this event are sold out, but are still available! Funds raised from this event benefit the Kane scholarships, which have provided support to more than 200 NEIU students in every college of the University. It is named for Northeastern鈥檚 late athletic director Charles 鈥淐huck鈥 Kane. If you don鈥檛 golf, but would like to support this initiative, consider donating directly to the .
Northeastern expands master鈥檚 concentrations, adds graduate certificate
天天吃瓜鈥檚 Master of Public Health (MPH) program will now offer two concentrations鈥擯ublic Health Promotion and School Health鈥攂eginning Fall 2021. Additionally, Northeastern鈥檚 Master of Social Work program added a specialization in School Social Work, and the Master of Business Administration program added seven concentrations: General Business, Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Global/International Business, Information Technology and Public Health. The Department of Health Science and Physical Education will also offer a School Health Graduate Certificate, which can be fully completed online. This is in addition to the Public Health Graduate Certificate the department has previously offered. 鈥淣EIU has a long history of serving teachers in the Chicagoland area,鈥 Professor and Public Health Graduate Programs Coordinator Jennifer Banas said. 鈥淭hese new concentrations and certificates with online components are an important step in being able to serve professionals who may not otherwise be able to attend on-campus classes at Northeastern.鈥 The deadline for graduate student-at-large is Aug. 15.
Return to Campus
天天吃瓜 is preparing to have all students, faculty and staff return to campus for the Fall 2021 term, with the majority of classes being held in person! The University will continue to follow guidelines that meet or exceed the standards set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the City of Chicago. Northeastern has also adopted an Interim COVID-19 Return to Campus Policy. Everyone who is coming to campus this fall is encouraged to read the weekly COVID-19 Task Force update for information on how Facilities Management is sanitizing facilities, face covering requirements and COVID-19 vaccination and testing options. Anyone with questions about the interim return to campus policy is encouraged to reach out to the COVID-19 Task Force at coronavirus@neiu.edu.
NEIU For You
If you haven鈥檛 applied to NEIU yet, there鈥檚 still time to do so and take advantage of NEIU For You, a one-time scholarship that covers tuition and mandatory fees for a full year for incoming first-year, full-time undergraduates! NEIU For You also covers the cost of three credit hours for new undergraduate who register for six credit hours or more for Fall 2021. All prospective students who apply to Northeastern and are admitted as first-year students will automatically qualify for this initiative so long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

Illinois Writing Project Summer Workshops
The Illinois Writing Project (IWP) is offering a Translanguaging and Writing workshop Aug. 2-4 via Zoom. This non-credit interactive course will engage participants in creative ideas for students negotiating meaning in two or more languages. There is a fee of $90. Next Steps for Admitted Transfer Students: Time to Enroll

Self-Care: Returning to campus
As we begin to transition back to campus, it is important to prioritize your mental health. Many of us have been working from home and/or studying from home for more than a year. It can feel overwhelming to work or attend classes in-person again. Take a look at these articles recommended by Student Counseling Services (SCS) that might help and ease you back into the swing of things. SCS has also provided some tips for helping individuals manage anxiety and worry they may be feeling, and listed some important resources. Students are welcome to contact SCS to set up an appointment to talk either by phone or their online platform for teletherapy. To access NEIU鈥檚 SCS, call (773) 442-4650 or send an email to counsect@neiu.edu between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, students may also reach a counselor for more urgent consultation by calling the main number and pressing 鈥2鈥 during the outgoing message.
