Thinking about becoming a Golden Eagle? We’re ready to help you soar! Mark your calendars and plan to join Northeastern at the Main Campus for an undergraduate open house on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Bring your questions and your curiosity. We’ll supply the fun! is recommended.

Jazzy Mondays 

at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS) will host their next Jazzy Mondays event at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 7. This performance will feature guitarist Phil Seed and friends. Jazzy Mondays is hosted by Emmy Award-winner Joan Collaso and Iris Dunmore of the Black United Fund. Admission is $15. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made via email at gbmpjazzymondays@gmail.com. Without a reservation, admission is first-come, first-served, and cash only at the door. Jazzy Mondays are held the first Monday of each month. 

Selva Aparicio: “Ex Voto”

���ǰ��ٳ�𲹲��ٱ����’s Fine Arts Center Gallery hosts Selva Aparicio’s “Ex Voto,” Nov. 7-25. A reception and artist talk will take place on Thursday, Nov. 10. Aparicio’s work invites viewers to consider the durability of memory and its ability to evolve in concert with its surroundings. The installation presents a tapestry of flowers and decorations collected from the garbage of cemeteries.

• Professors Emeritus of Psychology Saba Ayman-Nolley and Ruth (Breckie) Church co-authored an article in the with Hannah Valdiviejas (B.A. ’17 Psychology and Spanish) Theodora Koumoutsakis (B.A. ’13 Psychology), Andrew Mistak (B.A ’17 Psychology) and Alyssa Mogil. The article is titled, “Can gesture help English language learners understand the equal sign?”
• Professor of Political Science and Jewish Studies Ellen Cannon participated in the 2022 Midwest Diplomatic Marathon sponsored by the (AJC). Cannon is a Board member of the AJC Midwest Region. During the conference, she met with diplomats from Chile, Lithuania and Guatemala. 
• ���ǰ��ٳ�𲹲��ٱ����’s Genocide and Human Rights Research in Africa and Diaspora (GHRAD) Center’s for its 2023 conference is now open. The deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. CST on Nov. 30. 
• The recording of the inaugural Courageous Action for Racial Equity (C.A.R.E.) lecture, "" is now available to view on NEIU’s YouTube channel.

Leading and Learning Week

The University community is invited to attend Leading and Learning Week With TRIO Student Support Services, Nov. 7-11. This free, five-day academic and professional development opportunity is a chance to share knowledge that enhances student success in higher education and in life. The week’s theme is "Flourish in Your Education, Career, Life and Financial Wellness." Presentations will be held virtually and in person. is recommended as in-person space is limited.

COVID-19 updates

In accordance with guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Northeastern has adopted new strategies for mitigating COVID-19. Contact tracing will be conducted as needed. However, weekly reports of positive cases and vaccination rates will no longer be reported. If you test positive for COVID-19, students should immediately notify Student Health Services, and employees should notify their supervisors and the Office of Human Resources. Additionally, faculty and staff are required to report positive and presumptive student COVID-19 cases and exposures to Student Health Services. We continue to follow Chicago Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines as we ensure proper protocols and preventative measures are in place for the health and safety of our students and employees.
