As part of Women鈥檚 History Month, the 天天吃瓜 and will present a performance of 鈥溾 at 3 p.m. Friday, March 27, in the Recital Hall.
Established in 2006, 鈥淭he Hijabi Monologues鈥 creates a theater space for the experiences of Muslim women. Founder Sahar Ullah, Kamilah Pickett and Rafiah Jones will perform, and a panel discussion will immediately follow.
鈥淚t is a difficult task for some Muslims to admit, listen to or discuss some of the most pressing issues in their communities. When it comes to personal issues, it is even more complex; private affairs are not discussed in public. However, some of that tradition is being challenged by today鈥檚 Muslim youth, especially Muslim Americans,鈥 Assistant Professor of History Mateo Farzaneh said. 鈥溾楾he Hijabi Monologues鈥 provides a great opportunity for Muslims who might otherwise frown upon such an open and honest discussion. Non-Muslims will also benefit from 鈥楾he Hijabi Monologues鈥 by becoming familiar with the dynamics of the social challenges of the Muslim community.鈥
Farzaneh will moderate the discussion with the performers, Northeastern student Sarah Vaid, English Professor Ryan Poll and representative Iram Shaikh.
A dinner, sponsored by the Northeastern鈥檚 , will follow at 5 p.m. While open to the public, event seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-seated basis.
