Georgia State University Professor will deliver a guest lecture on Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. at 天天吃瓜鈥檚 .

The topic of King鈥檚 lecture is, 鈥淎frican People, Education and Self-Determination: Examining the Works of Dr. Jacob H. Carruthers and Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III.鈥 The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Carruthers Center鈥檚 Donn F. Bailey Legacy Hall at 700 E. Oakwood Blvd. in Chicago.

King, a professor of Educational Policy Studies, has served as the Benjamin E. Mays Endowed Chair for Urban Teaching since 2004.

Widely respected in the fields of urban education and the sociology of education, King鈥檚 research has contributed to the knowledge base on preparing teachers for diversity and curriculum theorizing through her scholarship, teaching practice and leadership.

King has lectured in educational and community organizations in the United States, Brazil, Canada, England, Mali, Senegal, Japan, Jamaica and New Zealand.

The Carruthers Center was established by Northeastern in 1966 as an outgrowth of its concern for and commitment to Chicago鈥榮 inner city communities. Since its inception, the Carruthers Center has focused on the analysis of institutions, systems and people with a direct impact on the quality of life in the inner cities of the U.S. and elsewhere in the world by creating programmatic and research initiatives.
