Introduction
The School Counseling, M.A., offered through the Department of Counselor Education, fulfills the educational requirements for the Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with School Counselor Endorsement. School Counseling also meets the educational requirements for the two levels of licensure as a professional counselor in the State of Illinois: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
The School Counseling program was granted continuation of CACREP accreditation through Oct. 31, 2025. The end date of the next accreditation cycle will be determined at a CACREP Board of Directors meeting. In addition, the program鈥檚 graduate students are eligible to sit for the National Counselor Examination (NCE) during their last year of study. A passing score on the NCE is one of the requirements for the LPC or LCPC.

The Department of Counselor Education is housed within the Daniel L. Goodwin College of Education. The College offers flexible day, evening and weekend classes. The Department offers flexible evening classes.

Scholarships Available
The School Counseling program has secured a $4,270,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Education through 2027. During the final academic year when School Counseling students are placed in their practicum/internship school site, students can receive a $20,000 stipend and tuition for the three advanced clinical courses, if they are placed in a high-needs school. There is also grant funding for child care and transportation costs, if needed. Students who receive the scholarship also participate in a series of trainings related to inclusive practices in schools. Completion of the Master of Arts in School Counseling will satisfy all standards for teacher licensure as required by the Illinois State Board of Education. 天天吃瓜 has not made a determination as to whether this education degree program meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in any of the other 54 U.S. states and jurisdictions.
